Product Description 25 incredible--and EDIBLE--science experiments to get kids excited about science!  Did you know that all cooking is really chemistry? And that chocolate chip cookies will look--and taste--completely different if you swap out baking powder for baking soda? Or swap out brown sugar for white sugar? In this cookbook packed with 25 edible science experiment recipes kids can do in their own kitchen, chemistry professor and science entertainer Kate the Chemist introduces young scientists to the fascinating world of STEM--and cooking!   Kids can make their own:   • Chocolate-covered pretzels   • Rainbow pasta   • Ice cream   • Pretzel bites   • and more!   Each recipe includes step-by-step instructions, an ingredients list, full-color photographs, a messiness factor rating, and a note from Kate explaining the science behind each delicious treat.   About the Author Dr. Kate Biberdorf, also known as Kate the Chemist by her fans, is a science professor at UT-Austin by day and a science superhero by night (well, she does that by day, too). Kate travels the country building a STEM army of kids who love science as much as she does. You can often find her breathing fire or making slime--always in her lab coat and goggles. You can visit Kate on Instagram and Facebook @KatetheChemist, on Twitter @K8theChemist, and online at KatetheChemist.com. Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved. INTRODUCTION Hi! My name is Dr. Kate Biberdorf, but most people call me Kate the Chemist. You can usually find me teaching classes in Austin, Texas, or setting off explosions on national TV. Last year, I published my first nonfiction book ( The Big Book of Experiments), which contained 25 at-home experiments, including one of my favorites, Edible Snot. People loved that demo so much that my inbox exploded with requests for more experiments that can be done in the kitchen—so I set off on a flour-filled adventure to create 25 new EDIBLE science experiments. From Unicorn Sugar Cookies to Dragon Cupcakes, every protocol is packed full of chemistry. Do you know what chemistry is, besides being the best science in the entire world? It’s the study of energy and matter, and their interactions with each other. Like how the proteins in our flour react with the sugars in our dough to give us a brown pretzel, or how salt can lower the temperature of a milk mixture to give us ice cream (two things I show you how to do in this book)! Each experiment can be done with materials that your parents or guardians probably already have in their pantry (like sugar, baking soda, and food coloring). But the best part is, unlike my last book, you can actually eat every single one of these final products! Chemistry is everywhere in the kitchen, which is why I had so much fun creating all of these recipes for you. So what are you waiting for? Call your bestie, grab your apron—it’s time for kitchen chemistry! XOXO, Kate
